Since 1992, the Russian manufacturing company ZAO RLB Silica has been producing environmentally friendly high-temperature insulating materials from silica fiber under the brand name Supersilica (formerly Supersil), manufactured using the conversion of aerospace technologies developed for thermal protection of the Buran reusable spacecraft.

Silica materials have a multifunctional combination of thermophysical properties. High temperature resistance: - long operating time at temperatures up to +1200ºС, dielectric, chemical and radiation resistance contribute to the use of Supersilik materials for the needs of the state defense order, nuclear, rocket and space, carriage building and metallurgical industries of the Russian Federation. Supersilica insulation significantly reduces fire hazards affecting people and property: it blocks flames and sparks, limits heat flow, does not increase temperature, and does not emit toxic products.
